Almost everything is the same as last year, and that is good! Don’t mess with what works. But what about working on a few of the niggling little problems. And maybe even working on some things we didn’t even realize were problems. Gone are our beloved Goodyear's EMT Run-Flat tires, replaced with the new Carlisle Badlands XTR radials. I know what you are thinking. You loved the traction and toughness, but could do without the heavy steering, weight, harsh ride and unforgiving manners when bouncing off trail obstacles. But they would pull you through the toughest terrain and they were approved by the military. What if I told you the Carlisle Badlands XTR radials steered lighter, weighed 20lbs less, had a smoother ride and could still take a severe side hit from a rock or log and not feel like you were going to lose control.

Polaris even claims an increase in straight-on puncture resistance. After an afternoon of rocks, mountains and more rocks, we can attest to all of the above. Not once, even on the steepest rock strewn slopes did we engage 4x4, preferring to really test out the traction abilities of the new radials.
We never experienced any rear wheel slippage at all. They will even "fireroad" if you so desire. If only the XTR's looked as mean as the Goodyear's! I guess a great personality is superior to good looks after all. Also new for 2004 is the addition of a new digital fuel gauge which has been added to the VDO LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) instrument panel.






The fender flairs have been redesigned for 2004 with a wide  turndown lip. The headlight pod and racks have been redesigned as well with the racks receiving side rails.



Luckily the terrific motor remains the same. We would not be happy if they had!
