The Honda TRX400EX is a family favorite; it has the best all around capabilities for the dunes, track and woods. New for 2008 are two new color choices, Red/Black and Black/White. The bodywork has been redesigned for an edgy look; the seat is more ergonomically friendly and is also wider in the rear and narrower in the front around the gas tank.
Powered is delivered by a 397cc RFVC, air-cooled, dry-sump, single-cylinder, four-stroke engine and a push-button electric starter. A smooth five-speed transmission has equal torque ratios and reverse. The clutch has a lighter pull to it, thus allowing a longer and more comfortable ride.
Built with a round-tube steel frame and the lightweight subframe, also removable. It is a tough frame designed to take on whatever the rider style is. The front independent double-wishbone suspension has 8.2 inches of travel from the Showa Shocks. These shocks have five different pre-loaded settings to suit the needs of the rider. In the rear a Pro-Link suspension and piggyback Showa Shocks offer 9.1 inches of travel. Outstanding stopping comes from the triple disc brakes and a rear aluminum caliper.
The 400EX is one ATV that is on the minds of many dune and desert riders; the lightweight aluminum wheels, knobby radial tires, and the low - 4.1 inches - center of gravity make it a blast to ride.
Overall this is a bike that has been made to work on with ease; the oil tank features a dipstick and an oil window, maintenance-free battery, easy-to-use eccentric chain adjuster, and a washable, two-stage, large-capacity foam air filter.
Extras include a Dual 30-watt headlights integrated into front cowl, rear mudguard with rigid footrests, multi-function handlebar switch assembly, and high-impact plastic skid-plates protect engine cases, rear brake disc and sprocket.
