AMA Pro Flat Track is one of the most challenging and risky lesser-known sports. It has roots dating back to the 1920s. Motorcycle riders race at speeds in excess of 130mph with essentially no brakes. Instead of going around a turn, riders use their feet to slide sideways through at triple-digit speeds. Below is just sample of the wild crashes that can occur when riders push their limits:

Check out Shawn Baer’s wild crash, which he miraculously escaped without injury:

What’s VERY unique is that men and women compete in the same classes, and there is even a brother and sister (Shayna and Cory Texter) who race in the series against each other.

The field of bikes is also possibly the most diverse in all of motorsports, with American, Japanese and European machines, including Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Triumph, Yamaha and more battling it out on the track against each other. Indian recently joined the fold, too.

And check out Nicole Mees and Chase Sconyers dramatic wreck below. Amazingly, both riders were uninjured:

AMA Pro Flat Track racing is coming to the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas April 9th. If you’re a local, we strongly advise you attend this thrilling form of racing. Here’s how you can buy tickets. If you’re not a local, COTA and Austin are great travel destinations. It might be a good idea to book a flight from wherever you are on the planet, or take advantage of those frequent-flyer miles you have yet to use, and have a thrilling day at the races.
