Ask The Editors: How Do I Carry Tools on my ATV?

Dear ATVC: I’m looking for alternatives to the Kolpin Rhino Grips for carrying garden tools on my ATV. I have a very long gravel driveway that requires periodic maintenance, usually a shovel and hard rake are needed. The problem with the Kolpin is that they are not sturdy enough – even the slightest bump and the cheap plastic base will shear off. Even worse, I’ve never received a response from Kolpin customer service. So, I’ve got a nice pair of really thick rubber bands for $30.

If the rubber tool suspenders like the Kolpins aren’t strong enough for the terrain you’re traversing, a few companies do manufacturer and sell more heavy duty solutions.

We’d recommend giving All Rite Products’ Rack Rider ATV Striking Tool Holder a look as a starting point. It is designed to carries hammers, hand sledges, axes, shovels and other tools but is made from durable steel. Easy to attach and remove with 2 rubber grommets to keep tools in place. We found one here on eBay new for $31.43/ free shipping.

Another suggestion would be checking out the Pack Rat- commonly sold as a gun or bow holder for ATV racks, they make perfect tool carriers and are pretty well built.

We located a new set of these here on eBay for $31.45/ free shipping.

All Rite also offers a $15.99 snap-in vertical tool carrier that attaches to a mount via wing-nuts but we haven’t had an opportunity to test this style holder ourselves and thus can’t speak on behalf of its durability or functionality.
