Ask the Editors: Clear Title while Financing an ATV?
Dear ATVC: I am financing my brand new four-wheeler through a credit card. If I ask the dealer for the origin of sale will they give it to me even though I am financing? Can I still sell it for cash?

It sounds to us like you are getting two terms mixed up. You will indeed be receiving a certificate of origin as well as a bill of sale.
The bill of sale is your receipt from the dealership. The certificate of origin is the equivalent of a title for an ATV. If you are financing the machine through the dealership itself, there will be a lean on the certificate until it is paid off.
If however you are purchasing the ATV with a major credit card of your own, the title will be free and clear from the dealership even if you are making payments to the credit card company (Visa, MasterCard etc.); in which case you could absolutely turn around and sell the vehicle with a clear title in hand without having yet paid it off.
