Dear ATVC: On a recent business trip to the UK, I spotted a road-going ATV that looked a lot like a KTM from afar but wearing full street gear. I’ve been going crazy ever since trying to figure out 1) What the machine in fact is. 2) If one could be imported to the US and 3) If it would be road legal here in the States. Any help is appreciated. KentonD

Were we to guess based on your description alone, sounds to us like you saw a LandFighter Demolition 5.5 LandFighter is an International auto brand in the strictest sense of the term, with its headquarters located in The Netherlands, its factories in Taiwan, its final assembly procedures following stringent European specifications and its engines supplied by Subaru.

As many of the nations lucky enough to enjoy LandFighter distribution do allow for legal road-usage of ATVs, indeed their machines are sold with running gear packages designed for both on and off-road use.

Getting one here to the States may prove a bit difficult, however. You may want to start by inquiring at their official site but your most promising bet would probably be to contact one of their European dealers directly about shipping one (or more) over to a States-side dealership/ affiliate. Expect a premium for this transit of course. The Demolition 5.5 retails for roughly $8,745.

Lastly concerning road legality here in the US is entirely dependent upon where you live. Certain states, cities and townships do have ordinances that allow for road-use of recreational vehicles. Your best bet would be to visit your local DMV and inquire whether or not its allowed and what governmental requirements would have to be met concerning vehicle and operator if so.
