If, like us, you like to get loose on your quad every now and again, there’s a good chance you consider yourself pretty extreme. We were okay with this line of thinking, blissfully unaware that the very definition of the term “extreme” might as well be the exclusive territory of a pair of brothers operating out of Waterboro, ME.

Meet Geoff and Michael Howe of Howe and Howe Technologies, inventors, military contractors, actors, and entrepreneurial businessmen famous for their philanthropic drive to give back to the community.

The brothers first gained notoriety back in 2001 with the development of the Ripsaw, an unmanned ground vehicle designed for the U.S. military. It’s also a machine so extreme you may have noticed it in the character Road Blocks’s hero finale scene in the Paramount Pictures film GI Joe: Retaliation.

At the age of 31 the brothers Howe became the youngest duo to ever receive and prime a U.S. Military contract. Not only that but their work has landed them in the record books when in 2010 the Guinness Book of World Records awarded Howe and Howe Tech developers of the World’s Smallest Armored Vehicle, the Badger.

Just browsing their site reveals dozens of machines and designs that look straight out of Schwarzenegger movies. What’s really cool, however, is that they manage to integrate their military designs into the ATV scene. Take the Mini Rip for example. Created using a Polaris Sportsman 850 chassis and engine, the Howe brothers slapped a miniaturized set of the proprietary tracks and control system from The Ripsaw and made an off-road machine that absolutely devoured mud bogs.

Or the EV1- a demilitarized Ripsaw designed specifically for private sector. The recreational use factor is off the charts and these guys will build one for anyone with the scratch and ship it directly to you.

We’d recommend giving their site a look; it’s tough not to get excited by the goodies these guys are cooking up. Just be forewarned, it’s easy to kill a lot of hours there!
