Winter May be Coming but AMA Pro Flat Track is Heating Up

Let’s face it, for those of us who thrive on the thrill of the ride, heading months of being indoors, snacking out and never seeing the sun can be brutal! Fortunately salvation is just a remote click away. Better still, getting to the races and watching the action in person can be a total cure for the late-fall blues.

Relatively short tracks mated to excessive power and speed mean tons of close racing! The GNC1 class, for example, sees 1250cc engines and top speeds over 130 mph.

We’re not so morbid as to watch for crashes, but they do happen! Here’s a clip of AMA Pro Flat Track racer Shawn Baer finding the outside wall at the Indy Mile and totaled his bike while sustaining some minor injuries. He was able to go to work two days later. Motorcycle racers are built tough.

Interestingly, it’s not a sport where only the men get to play either. Flat Track racing is a family affair and one of the only sports where men and women truly compete side-by-side. Yeah Danica Patrick made headlines when she became the first woman to race in NASCAR (and that is awesome) but that doesn’t compare the cajones it takes to race flat track.

Check out Shayna Texter and Nichole Mees, two amazing women paving the way in the sport. An even more amazing angle here is that Shayna races against her brother Cory in the GNC1 Pro class and Nichole Mees competes against her own husband, Jared Mees who just so happens to be the reigning champion.

Watching AMA Pro Flat track on your computer screen is one thing but experiencing it in person is a kin to witnessing the 8th wonder of the world. These racers defy belief, piloting motorcycles on the razor’s edge of chaos and control. While NASCAR and Formula 1 have four wheels on the pavement, these talented professionals do it with only two and one of them is not even planted the entire time.

The exciting 2015 AMA Pro Flat Track concludes this November 20th in Las Vegas, NV at the Orleans Arena. On November, 21st, stay for the Superprestigo of the America’s where the world’s best flat track racers will compete for all-inclusive glory.
