Chinese atv runs on old cdi but not new ones 5 pin
bought 2 atvs 1 ran right out of the box the other didnt
tracked it back to the CDI swapped the CDI out of the running bike to the non running it fired right up
Bought 3 5 pin CDI's from diff locations none of them will start the bikes but they continue to run with the old CDI as i move
them back and forth to the bikes

It isn't just a case of pin numbers that need to be the same. I have known DC CDIs with 5 pins, and some kill wires are earth to run, some earth to kill, on AC systems. The most common 5 wire is AC, earth to kill, but if your 2 ATVs are of the AC earth to run variety, for example, three earth to kill CDIs which is probably what you bought, are not going to work. If you have a wiring diagram, you can work out which type of ignition you have. Alternatively , with new CDI fitted, ignition off, short across solenoid so starter motor turns, if the bike fires up and runs until you switch ignition on, you have bought the wrong CDIs.
