Default Starter problem

I got a 2002 honda 300ex and my starter will spin but will not engage the flywheel. The starter is new and battery is too. What could be the problem.

Best guess would be the starter clutch one way or sprague as they've been called in the past or the bearing. Item# 2 or 12. Honda OEM Parts - The Worlds BEST supplier for Original Honda Replacement Parts Discounted Honda Motorcycle, Dirt Bike, ATV, SxS, and Scooter

Yup, exactly. Had one of those starter clutches go bad and it engaged, but it screeched like crazy. Bearing is one way and it's housing is flexible. Weird as I never saw a bearing like that before I had to replace one in my sons Dinli 90cc (now sold).

Oh yeah, for what it's worth, The Dinli had a whole starter clutch kit, not sure about the Honda ones tho.

Fitted one yesterday to a Fourtrax 300. They have been on "back order" for a while but are now available. You need a flywheel puller and Torx bit set to fit a new one on the Fourtrax. The alternator gasket is almost always broken when you remove it so be sure you have a new one.
