Default more problems starting lem 50cc atv

Well things were going fine until the machine decided to quit. I have tried starting for about a week with no luck. I checked the plug. It seems to be getting fuel. I removed the plug and connected a wire from the threads to the engine block. There was no spark when I turned it over. I looked at what appeared to be brushes. I see that they are worn so maybe the contact there is not adequate. I must say that the harnes has been taped in a number of places so ample possibilities there. Someone said maybe the coil is shot. Lots to think about.

Anyone have other thoughts or suggestions?

Afraid not, the only brushes on any Quad I have worked on are in the starter, so nothing to do with the spark. If you can find a checklist on here for sparking problems, that matches your CDI circuit, try going through it, but there are so many different types of CDI set up it is impossible to generalise.

Thanks Merryman. That gives me a clearer idea of what is happening when trying to start. I worked on the spark plug, trying to clean it as I could and adjusted the gap a little and was successful at getting it running. Just hope it continues to do so. I have no idea as to what the gap should be but it did help closing it a bit. I probably should get a new plug. The machine seems to be burning a little oil but I suspect these 2 stroke machines do. I have never had any 2 stroke machines. Most of my knowledge comes from working on my 26 model T Ford

I don't think so. Unfortunately, I have not had the time the last few years to get the car out.
