Default 950cc UTV?

Is AC putting this motor in a quad or UTV first and what is rumoured to be the overall width?

Man that would be a great fit in their prowler. Think about it, the prowler would be able to tow a house with that motor and probably run 60mph if you wanted. I just like the idea of having a bigger motor in a UTV for utiltiy purposes. We have a 1998 kawie 2500 mule and have put it through the ringer working on the farm and at the deer lease and have only had to do basic maintenance on it other than replacing the muffler. Anyhow, that would be awesome to have the 950cc vtwin motor put in the prowler. I am hoping to purchase a new UTV next summer and I like the prowler a whole lot. Personally, I like the prowler much better than the rhino and with a 950cc vtwin motor,...................LOOK OUT!!!

If Cat put's the 950 in the Prowler with the 4-seater option.... It's Mine!!! But I will need a place to park it and a new place to stay!! 3 new Cats in 3 years with no new carpet up-stairs. Done deal!

If I heard Arctic Cat were putting the 950 engine in a Prowler I would be first on my dealers waiting list. I have a Rhino 660 now, and the only thing it is lacking is power. It has long travel suspension, Elka elite shocks, a race cage, doors, and basic intake and exhaust mods, but I would jump ship to Arctic Cat in a heartbeat for another 300 cc worth of horsepower. I love my Rhino, but man is that thing a gutless dog!

Yamaha is way behind in the horsepower department already, with both the Razr and the new Kawi having run away with the show. Yamaha is playing around with the Rhino by giving us a measly 26cc increase for 2008. Honda is staying conservative with their side x side, which is not surprising anyone. That leaves Can-Am and Arctic Cat to build something better in the side x side class. Who knows, now that KTM is in the quad business they might just put the 950 V-twin motor from their super enduro dirt bike into a side by side. That would be sweet.

The basic chassis for the Prowler is fine, it already has three more inches of suspension travel than the Rhino. The only problem it has now is that it has the same gutless wonder 650 to 700 cc size engine that the Rhino has. Being as Arctic Cat already has the 950cc engine, and they already have a good chassis, they really need to put those two together. If they do, I'm jumping ship the same day I hear about it.

I talked to my AC dealer today... he said they can't put the 950 in the Prowler, some kind of regulation on HP in the side by sides. He has ordered 4 of the engines and going to do the installs on a dealer level. maybe some other dealers will get on that band wagon.

If the bed holds more than 350 pounds then the UTV has to be limited to 40HP, so not feasible for them to do it yet.. You could however do it yourself and have a beast heh.. Maybe they will do something like the RZR which holds less than 350 pounds, thus how Polaris was able to get around the 40Hp rule..

I would think the Teryx 750 makes around 40 hp unless Kawi seriously detuned the V-twin from their Brute Force. Then again, you never know, The 660 engine in a Rhino only makes 22 rwhp in stock form.

You wouldn't happen to have a link to someplace that shows that 40 hp rule would you? I don't think I'll be buying another side by side if someone doesn't build one that will get up and move a little more than they do now. I'm still hopeing for Arctic Cat to come through with a 950. rindlow,

I'm sure if it's a misprint or not but on the AC web site the Prowler 700XTX say's that the rear capacity is 350lbs and the XT650 say's 600 lbs. That's right on the number you stated for the 700XTX. Probably a misprint, but if it's not???? :-)

From what I understand, all manufactures that put motors in their UTV's must keep them at a max of 40hp, which I am not sure why. The bf750 makes 54hp, so the teryx is detuned to 40hp. The polaris sp800 is 54.8hp, but the razer is in a different class, thus I think it is still 54.8hp. The sp700 makes 47hp, but is detuned in the ranger 700 to 40. The ac 650 makes 45hp, but the prowler is detuned to 38hp. The griz700 makes 46 hp, but the rhino700 is detuned to 39hp. Again, I am not sure why this has to be done. Doesn't make sense to me.
