Well i finally had to replace the battery on my 2006 Arctic Cat 400 FIS Auto 4x4 , i guess 3 year's on the original AC battery wasn't that bad considering that i went 3 to 4 week's in between ride's ; but on my previous quad's i had owned Batteries had lasted 4 to 5 yrs !

The first 2 quads didn't have all the electronic's that 2006 AC 400 has , i got to thinking about this and realized that though only the clock would've been the only thing drawning power with the switch off ; the last 2 time's i had hookup the battery tender with the electrolite was low and i had to refill the battery with distilled water !

The original battery was the vented type battery and had a 165 cold cranking amps , the replacement battery was from Auto Zone a sealed battery ( no vent tube) and is rated at 200 cold cranking amps ; from now on i'm going to remove battery after each ride and keep it in my shop keep checking the voltage with my digital meter and keep my battery tender on it if voltage get's below the 13.5 volt's that it had after the first charge .

A new AC Original battery cost $150.00 through the dealership , the from Auto Zone was $74.95 + 7 percent tax , the Auto Zone batteries were what i replaced original on my old 1986 Honda TRX350FM 4x4 and the 1993 Suzuki LT4WD 300 KQ last nearly 10 yrs. ; i think the new one will last alot longer than the Original AC brand !

What about a cut off switch somewhere instead of pulling the battery ever time?

 

Yes i guess you could install a cut off switch or even remove the main fuse each time the quad sit's up for a week or two in between ride's , i know Auto Parts store's has one you can install next to the battery but i think it would take up to much space on a quad ; and the owner's manual call's for removing the battery when using a battery/tender/charger to protect the electical system !

The battery on my 2006 AC 400 FIS Auto is mounted under the tool tray with two torx screw's to remove for access to the battery , and the tool tray has all the tool's needed for removing these screw's and battery cable's ; i keep my quad in an unheated garage and the owners manual calls for removing the battery and take it inside a heated place in extreme cold weather making it easier for me to remove the battery and take it in door's in the winter !
