how much will 454 cost for for new rings
my ol 98 is smoking real bad and i plan on putting it in the shop in acouple weeks. how much should i be looking forward on paying for the rubuild for the bore and piston and rings, thanks. also i am new here so if anybody knows any secrets behind what size tires i can fit to how to get more power i would be greatfull. i plan out getting a jet kit after my snorkle and tractor exhaust goes on

If you are going to the trouble of boring it and putting in new piston and rings, you will probably need to get the valves done, if not the bearings as well. A proper rebuild on a machine that old will NOT be cost effective if you have a shop do it.
Conservatively look for $800 to 1000 for that level of work to be done. You have to ask the question, is the ol' girl worth it? (completely subjective and only up to you)
If so you will be starting out with a fresh rebuild and more power (yeehah!!!!) but you've invested money in something you will never get it back out of when it's sold.
If not then spend the $$$ on something newer with less issues.
Better yet, get a factory service manual and tackle it yourself...save big $$$ and learn your quad better than ever before
