Default 2004 DVX 400 Pressing Start Button Kills Electric

Hello, I am new to this forum and new to ATV's. I recently obtained a 2004 DVX that I know nothing about. It started right up when I test rode it. The next day I got on it.

1. Turned Key on.
2. Engine Light comes on.
3. Green Neutral light on.
4. Kill switch off.
5. Pull in clutch
6. Hit start button, all lights go out and nothing happens.
7. Turn key off and back on repeat 1-6.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Check the battery voltage, fuses. You said clutch in, I believe you meant brake lever pressed, the clutch is a wet one, acts a bit like a torque converter, slips at idle, then locks up. You might try starting with the pull start, if battery is weak.

I believe the DVX400 is a sport quad. Uses the same motor as the Suzuki and Kawasaki sport quads. It does not have a pull start. But it does sound like a battery issue. Good voltage does not always equal a good battery. The 3 batteries that I replaced in my quads ALL showed just under 13v but none had the amps to turn the engine over. Test with a known good battery. Not sure if the 04 model is fuel injected. If it is, it must have a good battery not only to start but to run as well.

Thanks for the advice guys. I took the seat off and found the problem right away, the battery does not look like the right size and the battery hold down bar was shorting out one of the terminals and everything was kind of a mess. pulled it out and it started right up. Lucky easy fix. Looks like I've got some clean up to do on the wiring though.

Wow! That could have been really bad. The battery does not have to be the same size as the OEM, it simply has to have the recommended CCA to provide adequate power.
