No neutral on 185S
Replaced the centrif clutch shoes and the friction disc in the main clutch stack...Works good, no slippage and at idle it don't run off and leave me before I can get on but it actually has no neutral...Gotta be the clutch release adjustment on the right side cover...Adjsuted it like th book said "loosen locknut, turn center set screw counterclockwise till you feel slight pressure then turn it 1/8 turn clockwise. " Lock it down with the lock nut while holding the setscrew to keep it from turning. Had to turn it out a lot to feel any resistance. Should I turn it out(CCW) more???

Try here. Not sure if this would be thr problem since you never tore it down to this point? I'm assuming it had neutral before you replaced the clucth discs...etc? Maybe you should turn it IN more first, almost back to the original spot, and work backwards. I know getting them adjusted can be a real pain. Are you sure you don't have a shift fork out of whack or something?

Yes it definitely had neutral before the installation of new shoes and disks....How would I know if I had a shift fork out of whack? I didn't touch anything inside the side cover..had to remove the triangle thing inside (with dmsll ***** on each corner) to get the clutch basket off.....Really only one way that can go back together..

I don't think I would pull the cover just yet. Try retracing your steps first. Opening the cases can be a complete pain. I"m assuming you have a book?
If so, I think I would recheck the seating of the parts beneath the basket.
BTW: I sent you a private message Smitty...hope it helps.
