New member and owner - 1985 Tri-Z 250
Hey,
I just wanted to introduce myself as a proud new owner of a 1985 Tri-Z 250. Low hours on a bored and rebuilt engine, new clutch, DG pipe, resealed shocks. Vroom! Some of my history with ATCs/ATVs...
Grew up with a Honda ATC 110, moved up to an '84/'85 Tecate 250 during my early/mid teens. Had a dry spell, then I bought a '96 Polaris Sport 400L back in '96, kept that for a couple of years until I moved...so now about 10 years later here I am with a nice Tri-Z just waiting to be ridden!
Any tips/tricks/gotchas to know about? It has the original plastics which aren't bad for being 22 years old, but I think I'll replace them at some point soon. It's runs great, might as well look as good as it runs, right?
I'm really excited and ready to ride NOW, but there's still 3 days left before the weekend.
Also, if anyone lives around the San Diego/OC area do let me know. I'd be interested in getting together and doing some riding.
Thanks!

First thing I would do is throw a complete DG exhaust system on it. Then get the jug miked and throw a new set of rings on a deglazed cylinder. Throw on some boyesen power reeds and jet it. Change the tranny oil with some 20/50 motor oil. Then you are all set for a few seasions.

I guess I should have included some additional info in my first message besides "bored and rebuilt engine."
It has a completely fresh '86 engine (1RX, 6-speed), top and bottom-end plus gearbox, bored out, with a DG pipe and silencer. New racing clutch as well as resealed forks, fresh coolant, fresh oil (of course, being a fresh engine/gearbox). I spent some time down in the garage looking for something to do, something to tinker with...and it needs nothing.
I headed out to Ocotillo Wells today with a co-worker and his son, spent a good 4 hours riding around and it ran like a champ. I was really impressed with the range of the engine, it does great cruising around and doesn't load up (Running 32:1 premix), then once you wind it up watch out!
Wind aside, it was a good first outing with the new toy!
