1980 ATC 185: Brake Assembly Stuck
Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum. I recently aquired a 1980 Honda ATC 185. I'm going through it and doing some parts upgrades.
I took the front wheel off of the fork to replace the brakes. I can't get the brake assembly off of the drum. It appears as though the assembly is rusted onto the axle of the wheel. I've sprayed it PB Blaster several times and I heated it up last night trying to free it. I've used a rubber mallet on it like a caveman. It won't even budge.
Any suggestions?

I've had the same thing on these old 3 wheeler to where the front shaft/brake drum was rusted together. Heat and penetrating oil is good, but some times it works better with an air impact and a dull bit along with protecting parts that could be broken or damaged with a folded shop towel. Rapid, sharp impacts work better most of the time on breaking loose rusted parts than beating it like a caveman with a dead blow hammer.
