Default honda atc200m, advance unit- need help please

Hi guys, My 1984 honda atc200m starts and idles fine, been fouling plugs all the time and they are always black.

usually starts first pull or first try with the electric start. I decided to take the cdi cover off and their were metal shavings/fillings every where and bits of a broken spring. I blew the filing out with a dollar store compressed gas, key board cleaner ( i dont have a air compressor) one of the mechanical advance return springs is busted and rusted away, the other one seems to be working and it does retract back to place, but of course the other one is broken. and not sure if its suppose to but theirs play in the rotor when i grab it, i can wiggle it back and fourth a little bit.

so the bike starts up first try, so i think everything with pulse coil and cdi and timing is all good, the lines of the rotor line up with the lines on the pulse coil when at the firing mark looking down in the timing hole

Will it damage or hurt my engine to run it with one return spring on the advance? its pretty important for all that to be timed right and for the advance to be returning and opening properly. So im wondering how it even starts?
right now i can get those exact set of spring for the mechanical advance unit ( as soon as i have the money) but hopefully thats all i need and i didn't damage anything else?
thanks so much for any advice

If the mechanical advance mechanism isn't working right especially with the weight springs broken it'll just retard spark and continue to foul plugs. I'd keep a check on ebay for a good use one as the springs aren't listed separately. The cheapest I've found on a new advance assy is 175 bucks at Partzilla. That is if they still have them.

If it starts and idle fine, then sounds like it's not in bad shape. The filings are probably from the spring, but might help to look at the parts break down 1984 Honda ATC200M A PULSE GENERATOR | Cycle Parts Depot and keep a check on ebay if one shows up. Rechecked
several sites and it's NLA.Here's one here, but not in good shape compared to the one that already sold. Both from Canada.http://www.ebay.ca/itm/85-Honda-ATC-...-/331948727105 http://www.ebay.com/itm/ATC-Honda-200ES-200M-200S-TRX200-CDI-ADVANCER-PULSE-SPARK-OEM-30220-VM3-000-F-/172012153438?_ul=AR Plus it might be possible to match these springs up if the rest of its ok.

Adjust the valves, new springs and it should run good. Here's a video on a 200S model. Should be the same .002 intake and exhaust or possibly .003 on the M model.

Part numbers are different, but even though it looks the same I'd call someone that could really tell you yes or no. Strange though that they show to have this one for an 83 model, but the 84 model advance unit is discontinued on every site?

yes very strange, and one would think if these advance units for for more the than one vehicle would be in a universal category. but no, all the 1984 200s, 200m, trx200, 200x, all these are discontinued. but those 83" advancer's are going strong??
