Can anyone tell me about the Yamaha Champ?

Mechcanically, has this been a good quad? It rode okay, peppy, shifted okay. I heard a little grinding in the tranny box.

A guy wants $800 for a 1989 Yamaha Champ (100cc), auto clutch. The price seems a little high for a 11 year old quad that is in average condition.

Are parts available for the Champs?

Thanks for any information u can supply.

I own a '87 or '88 Yamaha 100cc Champ.... (4speed autoclutch, electric start, shaft drive) and $800 bucks is not that bad of a price if it is in fair or good condition. In northern California, you can spend $1000 on just about any "small cc" quad.
I usually have to order my parts from the dealer and they come in a week or so, and they are not too expensive. I bought mine from some guy that had it sitting in his barn for a few years ... his son had blown the top end up. It is easy to work on, you just pick it up and put it on the bench!! By the way, it is a really good quad for its size... my wife, all 110lbs of her, won't get off it long enough for any of the kids to ride it!
