Default Looking at a 2001 polaris 500 need help

OK, this my first post any guidance would be helpful. So my cousin has 2001 polaris 500 its been sitting in our barn for 3 years now horses have ate the seat off, starter is out carb needs a rebuild and the fuel system I'm sure is in need of cleaning now. Not sure how many hours but I can get that info if needed. It is 4x4, how much would you guys for something like this 500-700?

The ATV has a hour meter and odometer and it is AWD. It goes by condition.

Some 2008 Sportsman's are worth $1000 some 2001 are in great shape and worth $3000.

I'm giving him 700 for it I did a lot of looking around and he agreed to that. Its a 500 HO all wheel drive. Its dead so IDK how many miles but we used to ride with him before our 700 got stolen and there can't be many miles on it. Is that a fair price?

Only way to truly find out is to get it running and replace what's needed. Only then will you know if it's a good barn find or you've fallen into a money pit.If it turns out to be more than you want to bite off there is always ebay with people willing to buy parts from it. Who knows, you could make your money back and more this way also.

[QUOTE= horses have ate the seat off[/QUOTE]
This made me chuckle a little. But seriously, buying something that doesn't run is a bit of a gamble. If the engine and awd system are in good shape, thats a definite plus. Probably going to need a new battery, starter, and clean the carb or rebuild it. Best case is with about maybe $500 you have it running again and then you have a running $1200 Sportsman 500. Best of luck.

Everything's in good shape. You're correct it needs a battery, starter, a seat and carb rebuild

Seems to be a common thing for horses to eat the seat covers, back rests and the foam from atvs and Rangers.. I've had plenty of these brought in over the years down here to repair what these critters have damaged..

Lol before our 700 was stolen horses ate the cover and plastic shifter **** off of it over the fence. So if you ever see a 700 that has a white delrin **** on the shifter that's unique custom made say something.

Got it running and went riding with friends today. I had a blast and made them mad because surprisingly we lined them up and I pulled hard on a 2012-2013 500 ho like mine, raced a 2015 570 polaris and beat it until I toped out, and did the same to a 2014 650 xmr can am I'm pretty happy with it for $700. Thanks for the help guys
