From a yz250 to what kind of quad?
Hi guys, I just sold my 09 yz250. She was a thing of beauty but I felt I would be more comfortable on four wheels and have always seems to have more fun riding quads.
I ride mostly trails, even in the backyard, and would like to try harescrambles possibly.
I have been looking at the following
400ex (reliable)
Trx450r
Polaris 525 irs
Yfz 450
Raptor 700
I like the yfz the best for sure but question the reliability... What do you all recommend? I don't mind rebuilding or changing oil/air filter valves but want it to at least make it through a summer so I can rebuild in the winter.
What do you all recommend?
And how about the z400?
Thanks!!

If you want low maintenance and still have power, I'd go with the Raptor 700 out of those you mentioned. All the others have more intensive maintenance requirements similar to those of your motocross bike. My son has the Predator 500 (predecessor to the Outlaw 525 you mention) and the maintenance schedule on it is a little over the top. Oil change every 10 hours etc ...
The 400EX is also a very capable mount though lacking in power compared to the rest you mention.

Since you have both the 525irs and the raptor as possible candidates, I'd reccomend taking a look at a Honda 700xx as well. It's got IRS, fuel injection, reverse and has a powerband that feels endless. It was hondas answer to the outlaw and raptor.
I doubt there is a better 2wd trail machine out there.
