Hi, I am looking at either a 08 yfz 450 or 07 Honda 400ex. I mainly do trail riding and I also jump. I would defiantly go with the yfz, but reading stories I hear that they are very high maintenced. I have ridden a lot, but pretty new to race quads, I ride my friends yfz and seem to do just fine with it. I do not know if the yfz will break down and need a lot of maintence. How often will I need to change the oil and how much less maintence does the 400 need. I just wanted to see if you guys could help me.

if you are mainly going trail riding, id go with the 400EX, the YFZ 450 is a Racer at heart, more at home on the racetrack than the trails, and thus would need more maintenence, not to mention it will be more expensive to get parts for. the Honda Equivalent would be the TRX 450R, another high performance bred race machine.

So, unless you plan on racing your quad in the future, stick to the 400EX. its simpler, easier to run on the trail, more docile, and cheaper to maintain, plus less likely to break if you run over a stump, or hit that hole a little too hard.

A Yamaha Raptor 660 would be better on the trails if you want a Sport quad and a Yamaha.

 

Hi. I went from a 05 660raptor to 0i yfz450. It's great for trails and jumps. It's a bit wider the the 400 but the suspension and power are worth it and maintenance wise it's ok. Take care of it and u b good. When I compare the two I got. Yea I put more cash in the 450 then the 660 but it's super cheap repairs
