I had a 95 extended cab z71 with a 350 and got 15 ish (cant remeber exactly any more). Then I got a 2000 extended cab z71 with the 5.3 and got 17 or so at 85 on the way to colorado and 19.7 at 75 on the way home. Now I have a 98 dodge extended cab 4x4 diesel and get 16 local and 19 inerstate, so long as I dont drive over 75. Milage realy drops off after72 or so.

 

I have a 2002 Chevy Duramax Diesel Crew Cab LT 2500 HD..(yea long name)...

This truck is WAY heavier and heavier-duty than all the 1500's, has twice the torque of any gas powered pickup (cept maybe those V-10s from Ford and Dodge, but they still dont compare), can pull a trailer up to 15 500 lbs. without a problem....and easily gets 20+ mpg (w/o trailer) on the highway and Diesel is cheaper than gasoline [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]. Plus the Duramax just sounds cool.

But whatever you do, do not get a Cummins diesel...they are bad on fuel, NOISY and rough.

Just my opinion...I would never get a gas truck after owning this LTV. (Luxury Towing Vehicle).

On top of that, with the Duramax, if you feel you need more power, it's easy. Throw in some new injectors, computer chip and perhaps mess with the turbo housing, and your putting out almost 800 ft.lb of torque and some 425+ HP.

1997 Dodge 4x4 ext-cab 1500 360 auto. After reading this I feel pretty good because I've been getting 14-15 mpg since it was new.

 

Hay tyrespinner- Have you ever visited DieselTruckResource.com? It used to be for Dodges mostly but they just added a Duramax forum and powerstroke forume as well. I have been reading there a lot and have found lots of good info. Eventhough the Chevy side of it is still new there is a lot of knowegable people in there that know a lot abought deisels in general and a few that have both dodge and Chevy in the family. I wish I could have aforded a crew cab duramax when I bought my Cummins but oh well. I am hapy with it just the same. There are a few people on the site that have there Cummins up to around 700+ Hp and over 1500 ft/lbs of torque[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]. Mine is still stock for a wile. It amazes me what can be done to theses diesels and the power you can get without going inside the mottor.

 

I was in a 3500 dodge cummings Turbo diesel and it ripped and pulled everyone out of the sand at Pismo...

 

I have a 2003 1500 dodge Hemi and i get 12 -15 miles to the gallon..

 

i had a 96 1500 ram indy pace truck,360,391 posi. it made 15mpg at 75,11-12 pulling a 16ft car trailer and 4000 pound car.the guy i sold it to had the same truck with 3.55 gears and it made 13mpg
i now have a 96 ram w/cummins 20-22mpg running 75mph.the rattling reminds my wife what fuel to put in

as soon as I go over 1800 RPM on my 02 Ram 360 my gas mileage goes to about 11-13mpg. If I go about 65mph I get about 16-18mpg. In the city I get about 10. The best diesel out there is the ford powerstroke by far. best tourgue and ride the best by far. I hate the duramax, but just my opinion. each there own
