Its on the rotax site

-85hp
-86NM torque (18% more than the current 800)

also has a 6 speed gearbox- which should be lighter than CVT tranny

if you add electric-pushbutton shifting, can-am could potentially steal a lot of customers from honda- the cvt haters

I've been creaming over this motor since they came out with it for the new BMW F800 - this motor is actually lighter than the current DS650 motor - which as you all know came from the BMW F650 - so its only natural for it to migrate to a new DS chassis....a DS800.
this with EFI would rock serious ****.

6 speed tranny - I beg for it - I miss it hard core - it used to be the standard - less need for sprocket gearing changes going from one place to another - pull the valley side of sand mt. in 4th, pull the face side in 3rd, both at a more ideal rpm.
with a 5 speed tranny you gear your sprockets for one side, and then either over-rev or lug on the other side.
yes you would still set up sprockets ideally for racing, but for a duner like me I want the versatility without the care of the race. pull Choke in 3rd, go around to Devil's and climb it in 4th, and come down into its bowl in 6th wide open....I currently find myself reaching for 6th now on my DS - wishing I had another gear for a bit more g-force at the bottom!

So this is a parallel-twin, not the typical V-twin design??

I fournd this write up on the BMW F800 that pertains to the motor:
On the F 800, it delivers power with an instant surge, rather than a vicious snap, and together with the pure-shifting six gears that rarely need any clutch to engage, it makes for an enjoyably smooth experience.

However, there is a drawback: It is impossible to change the gear ratios.

The other big feature is, of course, the fuel-injected parallel twin.

It is similar in design to the Rotax in the F 650 range with its 30 degree angle, but it has two cylinders side by side firing alternately, instead of a single cylinder.

It features a third conrod on the crankshaft which is fixed at one end to offer a counter balance to the two cylinders moving in unison.

This is what makes the twin run smoothly rather than lumpy like most parallel twins and it is a lighter option than most other counter-balance solutions.

At idle there is hardly any vibration and the mirrors are still.

As you wind on revs, the engine tingles, rather than vibrates and the mirrors are hardly affected.

However, after a long day's riding, you will feel the tingle in your backside and hands.

Its rev limit is 9000rpm, so it's no Supersport screamer, although it does have a rorty induction roar.

so you guys think its a good idea?

well the least they could do is put it in the renegade- 607lbs is way to much to be sport- 545lbs should be their goal- thats only 50lbs more than a ds650- and almost double the motor

Come on guys. You had the spotlight for a year, now its ACs turn. If anyone has noticed, its ALWAYS Arctic Cat, and Can-Am at the top podium spots in the terrain, and mud races. I believe the share the same in the sled races also. I have come to terms that AC and Can-Am are on top and will be there for a while, trading the top spot off to each other year to year.
