I own a 2000 DS650 that I like to race on quarter mile. And now I think I have a good setup for it. So I want to compare with all of you if you want to tell us about your jetting, pipe, cdi, etc
Reaction: .014
60 feet: 1.71
1/8: 8.42
1/4: 14.03/84.8mph
Outside temp. was 2*C (34*F)
Dont be shy and tell me your best run ever!!!

Hi The Stir, my tires are Dunlop KT335. (The original tires of 400EX, Z400,etc) in 20-10/9 size.
Trigger coil?: If you drain the engine oil and take off the magneto cover, you will see the trigger. Take it off.( two bolts ) Reverse it and you will see two "lips" around the two bolts hole. Buff it! After that, take a small round file and put off some steel at the right of the two holes. When you will take the trigger back in place, you will be able to place it more at the left. This will give you the timing advance. USE FILLER GAUGE TO HAVE THE GOOD DISTANCE BETWEEN THE TRIGGER "TIP" AND THE ROTOR. ( .01 TO .03 INCH)
Keep it for yourself

I believe Pami also offers a modified trigger coil mount for advancement
did you have to modify the aluminum case saver guard in front of the sprocket to fit the 18T? I think it rubs on 17T if memory serves...
I've seen many a hole punched in cases from the removal of these - ouch!

When I put the 18 teeth, I have no choice to take off the case saver. My chain is always adjusted and lubricated well. But I know what a chain can do to a cover... I still have the black plastic cover. I know that it is not very strong but I hope and I pray god each time I take the saver off!!!
Good day!

I think the best option would be to run the 17 with the lowest possible rear (38??) and just use tire height to get the gearing you want. I have always wanted to take the 730 to the asphalt drags but I think some reasonably tall slicks on the back (or at least something that can be heated up with some surface area for traction) would be in order.
Jet turtle: what rpm do you finish the quarter in? I would think some 25 inch tall rears with 17/40 or 16/38 should result in a pretty good run without running out of gear before the end of track??
Do you have any issues with traction on dirt tires? Do you do a burnout before the run? How about keeping the front end planted (solid aluminum drag struts maybe?)

I dont have RPM but I think its something like 7400 7500. When I run 17/38, I cant go faster than 81-82mph. (My motor is completly stock)
At the Napierville dragway in Quebec, the track is very sticky so you dont need slicks for to have a good start. Just use a pair of used trail tires is enough. I can start in first gear and the front end stay right down without rear spining. (Burnout before of course) If you dont lower your front end, you will start on a wheely every time so use tie down straps or shorter shocks. Personally I have short shocks from a snomobile. (Very low front end). I will build "my page" soon and you will see pictures of my DS. Bonne journee!!!

Well I don't have a DS or even a Can-Am and I don't do 1/4 mile but have done some 1/8th mile and 1000ft runs. My best is 8.5465 at 74.27mpr in th 1/8th and 11.5572 at 78.55mpr. That run was with a .7085rt on a .500 tree. My bike is on the rev limiter about 20 yards after the 1/8th. If I had more gear it would be faster. I didn't think that was to bad for a 600 pound 4x4.
