Default 2014 650 xmr

My buddy just got a 2014 650 xmr and we just noticed that it only has 1 rear caliber on the right side. There is a spot for one on the other side. Are they supposed to be like that or is he missing it?

Ditto on the single rear. New to Can Am and did tons of research before buying mine. Since you're talking brakes, the one issue I've seen is they eat pads frequently (same issue in my Highlifter 1000-pads only lasted 150 miles after installing the portal gear lift). Going to order some mud rat rotors when I need to do brakes. Problem is all the cross drilling they do for cooling allows mud/debris to get at the pads and chew them up and hoping the mud rats will fix that (solid rotor). Looks like that's the way to go unless your machine never sees mud...

If you modify to 2 rear calipers you could actually screw up the balance and find the rears locking up easily. I once had a Polaris that the rears overpowered the fronts. Could be dangerous.

As said, Can-Am uses a single rear brake. Doesn't brake quite as good as 4 disc brakes but will lock them up pretty easily.

Brake pad problems seemed to be after around 2012. I wish I could remember what guys are replacing them with but can't recall.

Thanks MooseHenden- previous owner had upgraded to pads from Race Driven (put the on my Highlifter too). They're supposed to be harder and last longer.

Wouldn't worry about having the single disc on the rear 200es, Can Ams have been that way for a while and MooseHenden hit the nail on the head about adding another. They were designed to stop with one and rear brakes are only about 20% of your stopping power anyway.
