Default Kazuma Meerkat Brake Modifications

On my son's little Meeerkat 50, it only has a rear brake with a foot pedal. I'd like to add a hand brake as well. For one reason to have a an added safety feature and so he has practice using hand brakes as he moves up into better quads.

I know the newer model (Wombat) has this option. Anyone have any suggestions for a good setup? I thought about replacing the pin in the brake drum lever with a double-holed pin and do it that way. Maybe someone else has already gone through the trial and error process on something similar and has a few tips.

Thanks

Geoff, a rope tethered to a cinder block. Toss it off the back in times of crisis. Yeah, that's one area where they *may* have improved. My new one has drums for the front and a hydraulic disk in the rear. The only problem w/ the front drum hand brake is it takes more travel and grip than my kids can muster. Still trying to adjust...
