Coolster xr8 125 cc mods/review
Ok so i got my girls a coolster 3125 xr8 for christmas. it has already had its loads of problems.
First thing i had issue with was the carburator, it would bog and die if anymore than 1/2 throttle from a standstill. I purchased a vm22 mikuni and an intake for it.. Now the vm22 IS 26MM NOT 22. so the bog is gone but i have top end sputter.
I will get some new jets to try soon.
Anyways, i noticed as the rear spring compresses it tightens the chain, so i decided to add a chain tensioner i bought off ebay for $25.
Also i noticed the foot rests had started bending down (its a terrible design)
Here is a quick video showing the carb mounting and listening to the top end sputter.
So on with the pics, i must say the kids never have a frown while riding.
first the chain tensioner .
I basically welded a stud on, it is not straight, but it works.
I welded in a piece of square tubing (this was 2 pieces of angle iron from the shipping crate that i welded together). You will have to excuse the poor welding, my auto mask was not dimming so i had to weld blind.
I had to notch out the plastic foot rest because i didnt think it through properly.
I purchased it from superior powersports, okay company, took like 2 weeks.
I did notice everywhere it shows the wheelbase as 33.7" but this is false, it is actually 38.5" the rear wheel sticks out past the rear rack (unlike the pictures on the websites).
overall i am pretty happy. there was absolutely nothing used around the $800 i spent.
