Starting problem 250cc water cooled
Hi to all..
I'm having trouble starting this Chinese atv. It will only start after putting gas through the spark plug hole a couple times. It will also spit some gas through the exhaust pipe opening on the cylinder head. Finally when it does start, it just takes off really fast. I manage to take control and the throttle seems to work to fine. My mine question is why doesn't it start normally ? ( without me putting gas in the spark plug hole . Any help an suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thank You

Right, you have a leaky gasket between head and exhaust, so that needs fixing. Your choke may not be working, this causes bad starting, but once running things are OK. Low compression can also cause bad starting, check valve clearances first, if they are tight this could be your problem. If that doesn't work check compression, preferably with a gauge, a rough idea can be gained with your thumb over the plug hole, if it blows your thumb off, you have decent compression. Other causes are a weak mixture due to dirt in the carb or a weak spark.
