Kymco mxu 450i seems rather under powered...or is this normal.

bit of a late update, as I work away from home, Kymco uk were very helpful, they checked the id number and confirmed mine was shipped to a private dealer for personal use (maybe he sold it on thinking it wasn't very quick-only had 47 miles on it when I bought it) therefore it most likely still had its restrictor in the throttle body which they tell me dealers in the uk are instructed to remove them before sale, sure enough mine still had it in, didn't take long to remove and it runs great. :-)

Check in every so often and lets us other Kymco MXU owners know how things are going! I think I have around 255 miles on my MXU 450i so far. It has been a blast.

You guys might want to consider moving your posts to the "other" section rather than the Chinese section. Kymco's are not made in China but rather made in Taiwan and that make a really big difference in quality. The Kymco name is growing in popularity rapidly and their quality is second to none, and honestly they don't want to be associated with a Chinese brand, they have worked for years to get rid of that cheap Chinese label that some put on them. Thanks for your consideration....
Fellow Kymco owner and proud of it !!

OK ....I see the other category is under UTV's... sorry for that, I thought atv's had that category also. Perhaps the moderators might consider adding a Kymco section to the manufacturers area as their popularity grows. Thanks

Arctic Cat uses a lot of Kymco engines too. The Prowler 500 is basically a 450i utv with different plastic. The 450 engine is also used in Arctic Cat atvs as well. I think the 700cc single used in the atvs is also a Kymco engine. The smaller displacement engines used on the youth quads, also Kymco. The 700 twin and 1000 twin are Arctic Cat engines. So if you don't find much info on Kymco, check out the Arctic Cat forums. Might find useful information in there.

About everything from the Arctic Cat Core 500 atv and down are at least Kymco drive trains if not the whole units. The 90 is all Kymco. The Kawasaki 300 and 90 are Kymco also! I think the 450 may be the best of all, smaller more maneuverable size, a powerful hemi head 4 valve FI engine.

If my memory serves e correctly the 450 engine was the engine that Kymco used to win two GNCC races with. In most tests comparing the Kymco 450 FI to other makers 500 rated engines, the Kymco came out ahead in drag race type performance. The 450 had the advantage up to 35-40 mph before the 500 rated engines could start to gain. If you check out the specs of that engine, it was designed to be a performance engine with an over square bore and stroke to make it rev up quickly....and it does just that! The specs show the 450 is rated at 33 hp where the 500 is rated at 36hp. Factor in the additional weight of the larger machine and the slight change in gear ratio and the 450 should have a small edge on the 500 and it shows.
