Default New Tire Question

On all new tires, from cars and trucks to ATVs and dirtbikes, why are there small rubber knobby things that stick out. Is there any purpose for these, and my only idea is that they are indicators of use or something.
Kinda off-topic but I'm just curious!

The "nubs" or "****" as most people call them are where the rubber is injected or the excess rubber bleeds out of the mold when it's full. They're actually called sprues and anything that's cast or injection molded, from bullets to tires, will have at least one sprue on it.

the spurs are a good indicator of wear on the tire, especially for sidewalls. not so much for atvs though since tires scrape and rub up agenst so many things. but for car tires its a great way to tell the life of the tire, see if somebody has been hitting the curb alot.

Default New Tire Question

If there aren't any **** on a tire that could also indicate that the owner didn't like the way it looked and clipped them all off. I don't but I've read about people who do. That sounds a little OCD to me.

Default New Tire Question

Somebody must really be bored to go clipping those things off a car tire! Good info though. I always thought they just showed tire wear. I have also noticed that they are almost non-existent on certain types of tires.

So Murox the bottom line is clipping ****, or not clipping **** is a personal preference. Some would rather have them pierced though! (sorry couldn't resist).

Default New Tire Question

Those are rubber worms.........
Every tire I ever had that had those worms, made me sick, so sick I had to ride until the worms were gone.
After they were gone, sometimes the urge disappears, but sometimes it hangs right on.

Be very careful.......
