All SXS are 4wd unlike dune buggies or sport ATVs so would you not put the rear paddle tires on the fronts as well for more traction?

From what I've seen on shows like Dirt Trax Television and Destination Polaris, that's exactly what they do. They put the slick tires on the front and the paddles on the rear. Seems kinda silly for a 4x4 machine but I guess it makes it easier to steer rather than putting paddles on front and rear. These tires really aren't suitable for anything else either. Maybe the paddles might perform ok in snow and mud but there are other tires that do a lot better job. And riding on hard packed trails just eat the paddles up and make your machine ride like an old tractor.

Traction is not really an issue on sand, and front razorback tires will turn just as sharp if not better than knobbies do on dirt. What you need is to get the rears slinging a little sand to help propel the machine forward. Wheelspeed in 2wd tends to be king, so front paddles will just bog your engine down. Besides, paddles ride choppy. Front and rear would make it feel like you were on the world's worst washboard road until you get into the softer sand.
