Default 400ex with cr500 motor yah or nay???

Ive had this 400ex sitting around for years, was about to purchase the infamous cr500 motor and do the swap. Ive heard many many horror stories about the ridiculous vibrations of this swap...any advice..or is their a better more ridable swap possible?Ive heard the xr650 was a good choice, but the hp seemed low for the amount of work involved..please help before i waste my time and money

The xr 650 swap is a lot more common and reliable than the cr 500. You can find lots of info on exriders in the hybrid area.

My 1985 CR500 vibrates a lot in a dirt bike frame..(tungsten handle bar ends help a lot) I cant imagine how bad it would be on a quad..

Is there no 400EX motor just asking because you can build a strong running 400 motor. True about the shaky CR500 they have no counter balancer but have heard not all of them vibrate like crazy. Good luck on which ever way you go.

I have owned a few cr 500's. 1990 or later never noticed much vibration. However, I never rev'd the **** out out them either. Only shreds tires. Had enough low end torque to do the job.
