I am considering getting an atv for doing foodplots and wood hauling.
And I would like to know if anyone uses or has tried useing a 6' 3pt disc pulled behind your atv-
just pulling it not lifting.
And just how large the atv should be.
Also sprayers and mowers, (I wouldn't think I would need much of a machine for them)
Also it should be a 2up rider.

Not real sure if the 6' plow can be pulled well by any quad. Maybe rent a small tractor for that, and use the quad for seeding, spraying and maintaining. Just my thoughts.

Have you thought about a side-by-side machine. Like a Polaris ranger or Yamaha rhino.

 

You know that a ATV big enough to do this kind of work - say a big sportsman - is going to be about 6 -7K$. You can find a JD 790 4wd tractor for around 10k and the 2wd version is less. So if you are going to do a lot where a 3-point hitch or PTO would be nice, look at tractors. Prices are for new, there are good used ones too.

I do have a small tractor (45hp,7'wide)but the areas I need to reach have lots of trees to manuver around and I had hope that I could do it with a larger atv.
I would also be plowing my long driveway, pulling deer out from deep woods and icefishing.

Would look into a big Polaris Sportsman or Honda Rubicon.

The Honda has the best transmission for work like this IMO.. Though I have seen an 800 Sportsman pull some nice size logs out of the woods.

 

I found out the #1 foodplot guy in Mi. does his plots with a 700 Polaris
pulling a 6ft. tandem 3pt.disc. and has been doing this for awhile.

A neighbor was looking at UTV's for his farm, bought a Daihatsu Hijet instead. It's a micro truck, not much larger than a UTV. Has a 3 cyl gas engine, seats two, hydraulic dump bed, 4wd, and best of all - a real cab with a heater. Handy little thing, and he paid $6k for it, used. Not as fun as a quad or UTV, but a lot more useful. They aren't road legal in the US, but a lot of farmers are using them.

 

I'm pulling a monroe atv disk with my sportsman 800 at about 5hrs per ac for hard packed fallow field. Takes about a tank of gas to do it. Anything bigger, a tractor is the way to go.

Oh, and at 5km/h take the sides off the atv so it keeps cool ...

I do basically the same thing that you are asking about. I have a wood lot that I clear, till and I'm going to start planting stuff.

I have:
Yamaha Kodiak 450
Swisher Brush Cutter (works really well, it will even break down small saplings,
chain saw
woodchipper
Groundhog MAX (I'm using it for the first time tomorrow)

Works well for my needs: clearing trails, starting my plots, and so on.
