What would you recommend for a rebuild kit? Bearings etc?

NO up and down play allowed on the rod. Side to side play is ok.Machine shops or dealer can install new rod kits if needed and true the crank shaft. Also you need to check the large bearing on the counter balancer. Depending on what shape the counter balancer is in,there are several places that can rebuild yours if needed as a new one is over $550. This doesn't include a new piston kit and cylinder bore and can get a little expensive to rebuild a 400,but way too many people that post on these forums trying to just patch one up.A lot of times that doesn't work on this engine and problem after problem crops up..
