Default Honda and the Earliest Sport UTVs

If someone asked you who kicked off the sport UTV movement would you answer Polaris? What about Can-Am?

The truth is Honda began experimenting with such things back in 1977! Let's take a walk down memory lane as to where it really all began:

Great write up. I would have given an un-named left body part to have an odyssey when I was a kid. Thanks for the walk down memory lane!

I could have bought one of these a couple years ago pretty cheap(about $1000 in good shape), granted it was the 250cc version. I guess they have a nostalgic cool factor but they're more of a buggy than a utv. I know a couple ride parks where they would be fun though. The 400cc Pilot I bet would have been a hoot but its a much larger machine that's almost as wide as some of the sport utvs out now. If only Honda had updated them with 4 stroke engines, 2 seats and 4x4, maybe the Rzr wouldn't have dominated the market like they did.

Growing up, a friend who lived across the street bought one when the first came out. Great memories of riding it down at the old abandoned airport by our house.

Rear suspension was, well it wasn't. But it was still an absolute blast to drive.

Remember the " Odyssey " with the powerful CR250 Motocross 2stroke motor and the only time Honda used a CVT belt tranny.
