I love my Bushmaster. Good advice...... if you get one stock up on ammo. a year ago it cost me 8/box of 20, now your looking at 13-15/box. Cabelas usually has deals in large quantity. I am looking into reloading. I also have a Desert Eagle .45 and several others.

I still have the old Colt SP1 my dad got me for my 18th birthday back in 1978. Was he a great dad or what? Still shoots well after heaven knows how many rounds were put through it. I put the shorty flash hider on it, directs all the sound forward. You can shoot it without earplugs and it doesn't blow your ears off. Being a SP1, there's a coupe of other tricks you can do to it as well.

Have to say, though, it got packed away when I got a Springfield M1A. Can't beat that action, went through two major wars with no complaints, and the cartridge is so much more powerful. More accurate in general (5.56 gets blown around by the wind pretty easy), hits harder. If there's trouble on my farm, I grab the Springfield. Big, loud, rock solid, powerful, and absolutely evil looking.

Well I picked up an SR-556 (Ruger) a while back and it has been great so far! Thanks for all the advice folks!
Next will be a Springfield XDm pistol in 40 S&W.

what r u using it for. If plinking or hunting coyotes, sqeeks and any other small game. stay with the 5.56/223. if money is no option buy the colt or lmt. not sure that I would want a chromed lined barrel in hunting with it though for long range squeeks. I like the fact that the 223 is way cheaper then 308. there are a lot of options though

Default best AR

My vote is to put one together yourself! You'll be able to put together exactly what you want and know what's in it. And I think the original post was asking about the best AR, not best caliber. 7.62 NATO beats 5.56 NATO hands down. My next AR build will be a Spike's Zombie Slayer stripped lower with a XM-177 clone kit for that retro Air Force model look!
