American Derringer DA38
How many of you guys/gals seen a little odd ball derringer like this? Just inherited one from my brother-in-law that recently passed.Didn't know he had it,never saw one before. Took it out side by the shed, let my brave son shoot it first.. Then I tried and the trigger just slipped. Took it apart, cleaned and oiled it and works fine now. Does have a little thump to it..
Found a video on it, checked some history on them along with some for sale which in my opinion most were asking way more than what this little thing is worth..

Really not that bad to hold. 2nd finger fits the groove under the trigger guard good,3rd finger wraps around at the base and the pinky finger dangles.Saw a video on one where one guy used his 2nd finger on the trigger, index finger rode against the length of the barrel. I think too much of my fingers than to try it that way in case something happened.. Wouldn't trust it past about 10 yards or so,just meant as a defensive weapon only. Like I said it does have good thump to it with the 38 ammo. Wouldn't want to shoot one in 9mm or especially in the 40S&W that they came in also. Think it would be way too much recoil for these old hands.I inherited this one and a double barrel SA 22 derringer. Guess I am getting old,had to agree with the old woman when she said "Just what you need more guns in the house"

Never shot one before. Think I may be spoiled by a trigger guard, so keeping in a pants pocket would be a really bad idea for me. Think I'd rather lose a finger.
Biggest thing I hear about them is they aren't good for much of a distance. Duh. I figure they only had to be accurate enough to shoot across the card table in a saloon.

Yep,supposedly that's how they got their start,by card sharks and ladies of the evening you might say. As far as accuracy I'd wouldn't give something like this much more than a card table or two. Might be good as a back up pistol. As far as the little 22 derringer,it might be pretty accurate if you have it crammed in an attackers eyeball..

It's a face gun. You pull it out and stick it in someone's face. It has arm length accuracy like my NAA mini revolver. The mini doesn't even have a rear sight. North American Arms NAA-22MC .22 MAG CONV
