Carlw-

Thanks for your insights!
I like reading your posts
funny!

Okay you all now that I am armed
with some ammo here, can anyone
tell me if anything like backfires/spitting
hesitation is normal for this quad w/its age?

Or any other idiosychrisie (Sp?) that I should
be aware of?

Yours truly,

R'

Guess what? I went and bought this
quad, and about what I expected, certain
things missing from original stock condition.
Dings, little bent on ends of arms, scratched
and worn but no real rust, no cracks on the seat.

Everything pretty well functional, look like a good
buy. Then before offloading at my house still in
the truck (Off course after I bought it for $900.00
today)

BAAAMMMM, we (Dad and I) noticed a FRAME crack
directly above right front shock just pass the wield.
The crack goes all around the square tube portion
of the frame with slight (minute) rust. Knowing it
was not fresh, its not the paint. We put a razor blade in
the crack. Man, I am really upset, disappointed and feel
taken advantage of.

I need help here please what can I do? Is this something
I can fix? (I doubt it) anyone else doing their stuff
(riding and stunts) with known small cracks in the same
place? Whats the reliability? The point in buying this is
for my nephew as a starter quad BUT I do not WANT to
put him at risk of any danger.

Please help, all comments welcome.

P.S Yes, I know I bought this "AS IS" even with a Bill of
Sale (Personal sale between both of us) and I did inspect
all of the bike, he rode it, demo'ed it so to speak, I take blame
in not discovering it before the transaction but as he explain
all the parts replaced over the years, recommended future
things if needed, places to get cheap parts, it would appear
honesty was there (Maybe he didn't know, but doubtful since
the area he explained to me as upgrading the shocks is right
near the frame crack, etc.).

What's the big deal? Weld it up. If you don't know how or don't have the equipment then take it to a fabrication shop. It should not be expensive. Don't take it to a dealer! You will pay too much.

Don't even worry about it, man. DO fix it, but where it is means it's not too big of a deal or hard to fix by any means. If you were close to me I would give you directions to my house and MIG weld/prime it for free it's so easy. No big deal.

i would weld it but if it keeps cracking you can get a frame for cheep off ebay. and its easy to take thos apart considering there basically is no wiring. i just got a 87 250x a few months ago for my girlfriend for $100. and rebuilt it in 2 weeks. it didnt run because the case cover was cracked letting oil get all over the magnito causing no spark replaced the cover and cleaned the stator and mag and started 3rd kick. the total rebuild cost $300 including the quad. that quad is so much fun to ride and it pretty fast so usually end up riding that and my girfriend rides my 400ex good luck with the 250x and i think you got a fair deal you see them going for $1500+

Thanks you all on your positive
swing on this dim situation. I know
most things are fixable, and this mess
of mine is not totally hopeless but my
aggrevation mainly is its just more I have
to do and more I have to pay from the
start of purchase (FYI, we haven't even
ridden this quad yet, I don't know what further awaits
me with more problems). As I thought after I
bought this thing, it was ready to ride
and ready to be given to our nephews
for their Christmas gift. I wish the seller
would be responsible to be on the hook to
make right the problem, let him take care
of the cost of having this welded. (Not sure
if that will happen?)

Just entertaining the thought, how much
work is involved with dissassembly/assembly
of changing out the frames? And do to the
age of these frames am I really better off
with the same year 1987 frame replacement?
Maybe a strip down process is in order to
re-inforce like every weld point etc. Wow, what
alot of work. Is there anything newer than
the 1987 year that has the same frame?
Maybe a not so older year frame replacement
would be better but wait a minute what would
be the cost? What a mess....

Thanks (bummed out)

Just get it welded, not a big deal. I have an 87 250x that I rebuilt myself and use for just playing around when im not riding the 650 twin. Its a good starter bike and decent woods bike. Parts are cheap on ebay for it. Its expected you might have to put a few $ into it since it is 19years old.

All thanks for the responsiveness to this thread
and your suggestions and willingness to help.

I know have the Pics up on WebShots. Please
view slide show, the clearest pictures for viewing
the cracked frame is pics (3,4,10,12,15).
Other pics were for my purposes of demonstrating
back to the seller that it is indeed his bike (aka stickers
on fender/body).
