Default 400ex chain and rear sprocket

Ok, I have searched the forums but have found no definite answer. How many links are in a stock 400ex chain? I know it is a 520 O-Ring but how many links? Also, if I change to a 39t rear sprocket (stock front sprocket (15t), will the stock chain be long enough and will I still be able to use the skid plate or take it off? Thanks a head of time!

Thanks for the info in regards to the sprocket and skid plate. Def. good to know! In regards to the stock chain, I have seen 94, 100, and 102 links, so which one is it???????? If you look on ebay or some other sites like that, they mostly sell 100 and 102 link chains. Thanks.

Awesome and good to know. Thank you for giving me a straight forward answer. If I decide to get a 94l ink, will it be too long that I have to take a few links out? I also run a 36t rear sprocket for more open fielding riding. thanks again!

You'd want to test fit it first of course, but since you're running the smaller back sprocket, you should definetly not order 94 links, because no matter what year your bike is it will be too long. Personally I run the stock length chain with the 36t sprocket because it allows me to have the axle farther back in the adjusters to help keep it from wheelieing as much. My chain is slightly worn but the axle position indicator still has a few milimeters left to go before it lines up with the max mark.

Does anyone else run a stock chain (92 links; 2000 400ex) and a 39t rear sprocket? I need a new chain so I'm thinking I should buy another 92link. However, I swich between stock (38t), 36t, and 39t rear sprocket so I need to know if the 92 link will cover the 39t since I know it will cover the 36 & 38? Thanks again!
