Default 05 Rancher AT ES 4x4 not shifting

I have a 05 rancher AT with electric shift, I have had problems in the pass with the angle sensor, I am having an issue now with the thing not shifting, It seems like it is stuck in high gear. I dont know if it is the angle sensor or not! I am not getting any codes on the dash. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

If it cannot be shifted with the emergency shifter, the shift 'star wheel', under the front engine cover, has had the mounting bolt back off.

When the angle sensor was installed did you preload it and was the ECM initialized ..?.. The bike should be showing a code ..

PM your email address and I can email you the Hondamatic section ..

My 06 rancher at done the same thing a few weeks ago but in low gears and I didn't have an error code, it turned out to be water in the electrics caused by jet washing it, I was also told by a Honda dealer that they can get stuck if you tow while using in auto mode, which you should never do. aslo I can not believe how many people are having problems with this shift system, it seems like I am just waiting for it ti go wrong.

How does one go about "preloading" the angle sensor? And is there a diagram of how the sensor is accessble? HELP

You amazing Hondamechanic! Looks easy enough. Is there a way to test the angle sensor before I fork over $100? The auto mode starts in about 3rd gear which leaves me revving and going nowhere, so I switch to ESP and it seems to skip 2nd (even though it displays 2nd), and when I try shift up to fifth I eventually get "--" blinking in my gear indicator. Is this the "code" the threads talk about? If so, can you confirm code 5 is the angle sensor on an 06' Rancher 400AT? Thanks again. You seem to be the Honda thread prodigy!

Forked over the $100 and preloaded/installed angle sensor. Turned on my wheeler to start reinitializing and the gear indicator wouldn't show anything but
"--" blinking. I tried holding the up down buttons during the blinking to erase the code and nothing changed. Tried the initializing anyway and got to the part of hearing the adjustments after releasing the up down buttons, but my indicator doesn't show a steady "--", it blinks continuosly. Is the "N" supposed to take long to set? Does the "--" blink or is it supposed to remain solid until setting? And what is a code 6 and what's a possible solution/reason? Big ride is coming up the 26th and I'm trying to fix this frustrating issue. In an earlier post you mentioned the ECM being initialized. Would the preloading take care of that? Thanks again!
