Of the two 450's you listed the yfz is the 450 of choice for most people it's the faster/handler of the the two machines, but you said you wanted a trail machine this is where the trx shines in the 450 class it does have a little bitmore low end torque[stock] than the yfz for trail riding. If I were you I would consider a raptor 700r as it is by far more reliable, faster and a better trail machine than any of the 450's. The torque band on the raptor is perfect for slow to fast trail riding!

as far a rebuild that is not true with the yfz450. maybe a valve adjustment which is very easy and you whould want to do that with the trx450 also. im not positve but im sure you can get a aftermarket exhaust with the hrc. as far as the 450r being faster than the yfz i dont know about that. they are right there with each other. as far as wanting something with low maintance 450 are the highest in maintace of all 4-stroke quads. the trx problem will deal better with what i whould call lack of maintance.
btw have you looked at the raptor 700. it will be much better on the trail than the 450s. stock vs stock will keep up with the 450 and when you start to dump $ in them if you want they will pull away from 450s. the maintance is also lower on the raptor due to cam design and low comp piston. the 450s more excel in track riding.

yall r both rite but i def want a 450 im thinkin bout the honda. wat kind of maitnice does it need and how often?</end quote></div>
all the basic stuff like oil change, clean the air filter exc and then just a valve adjestment every so often. i dont know after how long they need to be rebuilt but i can tell you it is sooner than a 700.
\but again i whould really look into a raptor 700. makes a ton of power donw low and has the same suspestion as the yfz450 and lower maintance.

As far as the motor goes, these two are about equal...in stock form. Dirtwheels did a shootout in the April issue and these two tied for the best drag and top speed times. The Honda had the best low end torque of any of them...so that is good news for any trail riders! You add in the HRC kit, and it will give you more mid and top end, and you will be faster than any stock machine on the planet!
All the 450's need frequent oil changes...no way to get around that!!! They all have little slipper pistons and fewer rings, so they tolerate a lot of compression blow-by....the oil get quickly contaminated by fuel, and gets thinned out. As far as durability, it's the Honda all the way!!! This motor is the king of long distance desert endurance racing, both in the dirt bikes and quads. If you aren't on a Honda, you probably won't even finish the race much less win...so that made the choice real easy for me!
You didn't talk much about handling. I like the Yamaha for play riding or MX, and the Honda for everything else. All the 450's like to be ridden reved out and they don't like to lug, so you need to do a lot of clutch slipping on slow, technical trails. If you are just a trail rider, get a 400EX, Z400, or Raptor 700 instead!
