400ex help???
The 400ex is one of the best all around sport quads to buy right now.The z400 though has always been just a little better. As far as the 440 bore kit goes what I've heard is they have heat issues and the 416,426 are a lot more reliable. But the 440 thats what I heard for all I know they could be the most reliable. They have good power stock.

400ex help???
A 440 kit with Low compression and a Big head Kit from XR'sonly will Be just fine in the trails... Thats exactly what my XR440 had. I raced Hairscrambles every month and rode Tight Slow trails Almost everyday. and never exceeded oil temps of 250*.
Just REPLACE THE ROD!!!! I made the mistake of not doing it and it ended up costing me the entire engine and tranny when it finnaly snapped! In less than a years time!
I bought the bike new in 96 and did the 440 kit in 98. Shortly after BOOM! rod bent every Tranny shaft and completly detroyed the cylinder and case halves!!
Dont skimp out on the most important pary of the rotating assembly! Rod and Crank pin!

400ex help???
You are not going to be able to get your stock cylinder bored to 440cc anyway. You actually have to press the old sleeve out, bore the jug itself out to accept the larger sleeve, and then press the big bore sleeve into the jug. Where can you get a 440cc big bore kit for so cheap...please turn me on! My store carries the L.A. Sleeve 440 kit, but it retails for almost $450.

400ex help???
The EX is a superb machine! Great handling, high quality, and an absoutely indestructible engine.....but being and old school air cooled engine, it is considerably slower than the Z! All my friend's who have done 440's, have ended up with reliability problems!!!
If you need to keep up with a Z...get a Z!

ok thanks is the 416 and 426exs strokers? i was just planning on boring it to a 440 and getting a 10.5:1 piston cuz i dont wanna run race gas ill probably get a oil cooler resevior too and run good oil so it doesnt over heat. if the 426exs and stuff arent strokers ill probably get one i just dont wanna split the case and stuff i was gonna make my warrior a 396 stroker but its not worth splitting the case and everything

also are there any certain pipes or mods that realy wake up the beast in the ex ive heard the white bros E series was great on them i might end up installing a better cam and chain too</end quote></div>
My brother has an E-Series White Brothers slip-on, and the power increase with the pipe and jet kit was insane. Not to say that it would keep up with an LTZ400, but it had way more low end, and mid range.
Plan on installing mine tonight or tomorrow.
