Default 08 Rancher Plastic removal and re-assembly

I have an 08 Rancher. Rotten design.....in order to check the engine oil, you must first remove a piece of the plastic housing that covers the dipstick. Unfortunately, the plastic comes off easily, however, getting the panel back in place and getting it to "snap" into place is impossible. The machine went in to first service (valves, re-call etc) and came back with the panel on correctly. WHAT's THE SECRET?

There is a slot in each panel that a tab needs to go into right. If they are not in correctly the fit is crap and there is gaps.

Its a fine design but can be tricky untill you figure it out.
