1992 TRX300FW 4x4 Project Bike
Hello all, I'm new to the forum and I'm looking for advise/resources. I own a '92 Fourtrax 4x4 (original owner) that actually has been stolen twice. Both times it came back missing parts and other parts swapped... It still runs, and I used it as my hunting bike until three years ago.
What I'd like to do is tear it down to the frame and restore it (just for fun) good as and better than new. So over the course of this I'm sure to have lots of questions. Now, I'm pretty mechanically adept as I have done all my own work on my Harley's and personal vehicles, and I have a usable shop at home with plenty of tools.
My plans are to have the motor bored / beefed up, build the tranny as bulletproof as possible with upgraded clutches etc... Planning on maybe lifting it about 1.5 over stock and using gorilla axle, disk brakes... I want to build up to be a pretty good mud bike, but not a racer.
I will be taking plenty of pictures of the tear down, prep/prime/paint, and rebuild which i plan to post mainly to photobucket and save to disk in case I need a picture reference to put something back in proper place.
Anyone have good websites/references/advice? This project will begin at the end of this month, so I need to start pricing parts soon!

Hey I recently piked up a 97 300FW for $500.00 and am dong some overhauling myself..the thing runs great so im not messing with the enjine but am overhauling the drive train and hopefully getting some brakes working as well....
as far as were to find parts I use rockymtatvmc denniskirk and ebay the most
Ive seen the disk brake conversion kit somewhere for about $350.00
Ill repost a link later....
I found the WARN 424 kit @ rockymt.atvmc for 320.00 instead of 450.00 like everyelse.
i found the best deals on tires @ motosport.com/atvtires

both denniskirk and rocky mt carry the 1.5 lift kit about $5.00 difference in price
but denniskirk carrys replacement springs that increase payload and add 1.0 in lift.(they replace the springs on the shocks)the fronts are 60.00 pair and 30.00 for the rear, about the same price as the bolt on lift
you also get pretty yellow powdercoated springs
it would be possible to use both lifts toghether but I doubt the swinger and cv's could stand 2.5 lift

Thanks guys! I'll keep those places at the top of my list for parts and tires!! Since I'm putting the gorrilla axle set up on this bike, I think that the lift kit and payload springs may be acceptable. I'm not looking to make this a daily ride, just a weekend toy! But you bet I'll be looking into correcting the harsh angles the lift will create.
Anyone here have any advice on getting the motor cleaned up? It is a tan color now, probably from cooking on the last 16 years worth of mud...
