450R or 700R
May not be the right thread... I'm new to this stuff but anyhow
Okay to start off I'm going to buy a 450 or a 700r. I was leaning torwards a Honda if I get a 450 because alot of people have told me about it.
I've been riding utilities and dirtbikes all my life but I've ridden my friends 400ex's and can handle them no problem so I figure I'll be fine on a fast quad. I'm not looking for only a trx, any 450 from the 4 main companies would probably be best for me.
Most of the riding I do will be trail riding and open field, if it's at a track it's a track built in someones woods not a real track with huge tabletops and booters. I'm looking for the quad that is going to have the most reliability (For trail riding keep in mind) not the most speed.
I get alot of mixed answers so I figured I'd just ask on here. Some people tell me fuel injection is nothing but work and others say it gives them no trouble at all and things like 450s need valve adjustments every 30 hours of running etc. etc.

First off, the Honda is way lighter, and for me that's a huge factor. It's light and flickable. Don't get fooled by the numbers. Honda measures curb weight, with all fluids and a full tank of gas...not all manufacturers do that. Some put in oil and coolant, but not fuel. Find out what Yamaha does, before you believe the numbers.)
The 450's are all rev (not just the Honda). They doesn't like to go slow, so it isn't the hot choice for slow, tight trails. For faster more open trails and wide open country...it screams! Mine corners at speed like it is on rails. Another great thing is that the Honda 450 is the only quad that seperates the engine and transmission oils...God bless Honda for that one!
The Raptor is a torque monster, but falls a little flat on the top end. It is better for tight trails than any of the 450's, but in that venue, all that power is just wasted (I prefer the 400EX for tight trails). Personally, I have never liked the Raptor's ergonomics. They also feel a little heavy overall to me, as well as a little bit top heavy.
All the 450's (not just the Honda), need frequent oil changes. Read about it here: http://www.belray.com/scripts/...1d7-b921-64a4cf6d0144
Any 4-stroke can benefit from frequent valve adjustments.

Well you can guess what my pick will be and in my opinion the 700R is the ultimate play quad works well in any situation. Ya you can find a quad that is faster, or better racer or ones for a particular riding style but you will not find a better all around quad!
As far as EFI goes you will never see me owning a new quad without it! (Hence the new YFZ 450R )

If it were up to me I would pick the Raptor for the fact that it's the bestselling quad for a reason. If you have a friend who has a 450 sport quad ride it in the normal area you will be riding and that could tell you if it works for you or not.I like the raptor and the 450r but between the two I would go with the raptor.
