what is a hot start?
Cold and hot start conditions, are very different for the 450. (Cold/hot start, refers to whether the engine is warmed up already, not whether the weather is a cold or hot that day.)
A rich condition favors a cold start (pump the throtle a few times to inject raw fuel and prime it, and use full choke). A lean condition favors a hot start (don't even touch that throtle or you will flood it, no choke, and pull in the hot start button....if you have a kick start model).
The hot start button on a kick start model is a decompressor. (If you have an electric start model, the starter automatically activates the decompressor.) What it does is release some compression, so the engine can turn over more easily during a start. Pull the hot start button before a start, and release it immediately as the engine just turns over.
You should check the decompressor for proper operation, each time you do a valve adjustment.
I absolutely love having a kick starter!!!
