Question 400ex throttle problems

I'm new to workin on carbs and stuff, and I have a problem. I have a Keihin carb right now and a motionpro twist throttle, so I bought a "Terry Cable Dual Gasser" and a new throttle cable, and when I hooked it up to the carb, it was at 3/4 throttle with all of the slack I could get out of the cable. Is my carb made to fit only the twist throttle?

Like I said, I'm totally new to this stuff, so it's probably a simple yes or no answer. I just wanted to make sure before I bought a whole new carburetor.

Thanks.

Is it a stock carb, or aftermarket? Have you adjusted it at both the throttle and carb to get the most slack you can?

It's a Keihin carb... How exactly do you adjust at the carb? (I know I'm stupid)

To be honest with you, I'm not sure. I haven't gone into my carb, yet. I know that it's adjustable, though. I saw a discussion on adjusting it just the other day on another forum.

Surely if the cables too long you could just cut the end off of it?

You might have to anchor the cable differently. The outside of the cable needs to move closer to the carb.

At the carb on top where the cable goes into the housing it has a lock nut. It seems to me that you have the cable housing threaded too far into the carb housing. You need to remove the throttle cable from the throttle end completely and loosen the carb end at the lock nut. Unthread the carb end out of the housing a few turns. Assemble the throttle cable back at the throttle end and retest before you reinstall the fuel tank and plastics. This should work. Good luck! (and you're not dumb, just inexperienced)
