Default 450r shocks on 400ex??

Hello this is my first post on here. I bought a honda 2005 400ex a couple of weeks ago and I just put some 450r shocks on the front. What kind of adjustments will I have to make or will they be ready to roll?? Also will 450r rear shocks fit on the 400ex? Thanks

I am not speaking from experience here but I always thought that the 450R had bigger shocks than the 400ex therefore causing the front end to sit up higher?

It did feel a bit higher. I had been riding all day in the desert and when I got home I put them on and only rode around my hood but it felt higher. can I adjust them down a bit?

You can probably adjust them a little bit (harder/softer) but I am not sure how much that will help you out height wise. Once you put on the rear shock it should even out.

Did the shocks bolt right up or was there modification required? I was going to put 450r shocks on my trx250r a couple years back but after looking into it it seemed like too much of a hassle (front end would be too high).

Also, welcome to the forums!

Default 450R probs

The front shocks fit perfectly no machining necesarry however, it does increase the ride height a bit on the 400. The rear shocks will not fit though. I rode my buddies after we put on the 450's, and the ride did not seem all that improved. It soaked up woops a bit better--- a bit, but not much. It would probably be best to go ahead and dig in your pockets and grab some elkas.. 900 or so for the front shocks without resevoirs.. The difference with those bad boys is completely noticeable..

well the shocks were a big improvement! I only got to ride about 15 minutes before i took a spill and broke my shoulder blade so I'll have to wait about 4 to 6 weeks to try them out again lol.
